DaySequerra MultiMerge2 provides Surround Sound for HDTV viewers as well as Stereo sound for SDTV transmission, whether the original content is stereo or discrete 5.1 surround. Combining the features of our popular DownMix and UpMix products, MultiMerge2 will up-mix stereo content to surround sound using the DTS Neural Surround UpMix process, as well as rendering a Lt/Rt output of 5.1 discrete audio using the DTS Neural Surround DownMix process.

DTS Neural Surround UpMix process was ranked #1 in double-blind listening tests, outperforming all other methods in channel discreteness, envelopment, and original spatial location. The UpMix process can simultaneously position individual elements within a rich surround field creating unparalleled image stability and realistic granularity. This approach avoids taking “artistic license" with content. Decoded audio can be translated into width and depth information, creating a pleasing surround image--often indistinguishable from original surround sound content. Matrix-encoded stereo signals can be upmixed to a surround sound image more discrete than that of the complementary brand matrix decoder.

MultiMerge2 also includes a full-time DownMix (Lt/Rt) matrixed output that can be used to feed tape, local monitoring or standard definition broadcast feeds. The LtRt output DownMix allows your surround content to be distributed and stored on your existing two channel equipment without any modifications to the plant’s infrastructure. By correcting overlaps of the signal sources in intensity, time, coherence, polarity and phase before the six channels are combined, the down-mix process accounts for the problems suffered in traditional matrix encode systems (comb filtering, spatial location distortion, etc). This encoded content is specially designed so that surround information is faithfully reproduced when later rendered by a DaySequerra UpMix, MultiMerge2 or any Lt/Rt system.

Positioned just ahead of the final audio output of a television facility, MultiMerge2 provides seamless transitions between stereo, stereo matrix (Lt/Rt), and discrete 5.1 audio mixes. Original 5.1 content passes untouched as stereo content is rendered to a 5.1 surround sound image using the UpMix process. With MultiMerge2 placed ahead of a Dolby Digital (AC-3) encoder, a broadcaster can stay in the surround (3/2) mode. This eliminates the clicks, pops and dropouts that occur when transitioning back and forth between stereo (2/0) and surround (3/2).

Optional HD/SDI decoder/encoder will permit channel mapping for all 16 SDI audio channels with eight channels of de-multiplexed SDI audio routed to the AES outputs. Optional Dolby® decoder module will allow processing and re-encoding of Dolby AC-3, Pulse and E-squared codecs.

MultiMerge2 is contains a dedicated Emergency Alert System input that will override all other sources of audio input in the event that an EAS signal has been detected. Two different detection modes ensure 100% compatibility with all EAS decoders on the market today and allow EAS activity without operator intervention.
